Fall of Aharan (Acharn) in James Cririe, Scottish scenery: or, Sketches in vers, descriptive of scenes chiefly in the Highlands of Scotland with illustrations by George Walker

The Edinburgh schoolmaster James Cririe was the first to publish a poetical account of the Scottish petit tour. Inspired by Burns’ 1787 journey, it is illustrated with 20 views by the Edinburgh-based artist George Walker, an ex-student of the Foulis Academy. Aware of the repetitiveness and uniformity that had begun to creep into tour writing and its illustration, Cririe boasted that Walker’s illustrations were the first new views of key sites on the petit tour since Pennant’s pioneering publications.
