A Highland Dance

Together with 'A Highland Wedding', 'Highland Dance' is among Allan’s most popular prints. Both are reminders of the contemporary revival of interest in Scottish customs, as illustrated by the foundation of Highland Societies in Edinburgh and in London. Music for the dancing is here provided by the celebrated Perthshire fiddle player and composer Niel Gow, while the bagpiper in the background takes a break for a pinch of snuff.
