Paul Sandby

Five oval Scottish Landscapes from A Collection of Etchings

Although Sandby left Scotland in the early 1750s, he often revisited the studies of people and places he had produced there. This page from an album of etchings includes a Highland landscape -bottom left- with a survey party in the Highlands. Unlike the specifically located View of Loch Rannoch, the setting of this survey scene is more generic, and the figures dragging the measuring chain appear to be Highlanders rather than Redcoats.
