Neolithic stone ball

This enigmatic carved stone ball identified as coming from Roxburgshire, in Southern Scotland, is one of three dated 3200-2500 BCE, that came to The Hunterian as part of Dr William Hunter’s 1783 bequest. The earliest prehistoric carved stone ball from Scotland to enter a museum collection, it highlights the rising interest among contemporaries in preserving the remnants of Scotland’s past.
