Dunkeld Cathedral

Together with the paintings of Dunkeld and of the Falls of Braan, this garden-like view of the partially ruined Tayside cathedral was painted in preparation for a complex decorative scheme for the dining room at Atholl House (now Blair Castle). While still used for services, the cathedral had by then become part of the designed landscape at Dunkeld. Over the following decades, as the southern gateway to the Highlands, this place would become a major tourist destination.
